Doing the Most With Your Kitchen

Sometimes I think we spend so much time focused on what we don’t have in our homes, or not having the home of our dreams, that we don’t take full advantage of the space we have now. Having a smaller space doesn’t mean you can’t entertain. Not living right by the beach or in a gated community doesn’t mean that your home is any less of a destination. And choosing to build a life where you are and staying there for the next twenty years doesn’t mean you have to miss out on all that good design has to offer.

Whenever I get into this frame of mind, I always consider the kitchen in someone’s home. For anyone living in a simple townhome or single-family home built more than 7 years old, having a beautiful, functioning kitchen is something you have to create. When it comes to functionality, standards for the kitchen have changed over the years, and the desire to be more comfortable with space and having people in the kitchen is more of a priority these days. When it comes to beauty, styles and trends change all the time! While a white kitchen is now seen as classic, many homes back in the day were built with natural toned wood cabinets and simple countertops.

Changing everything, though, is a big undertaking. So what do you do? You do what you can with what you have. When it comes to the kitchen, if you’re able to make some minor changes to give yourself a fresh new look, you’ve already set yourself up for a win.

Take this kitchen, for example. While small in size, it’s mighty in character. They’ve maximized on the space in this little galley kitchen, and incorporated some creative solutions to storage that don’t make the space feel cluttered. (And honestly, that’s SUPER important to me. I really loathe a cluttered kitchen, but I digress). What’s something you enjoy about this updated space?

You can provide yourself with uplift, too. As long as your kitchen is in decent working condition, you can use some or all of this tips to add a little extra to your kitchen:

  • Paint cabinets
  • Add shelving, hooks, or both, to empty wall spaces
  • Install pullout drawers and additional shelves inside cabinets
  • Use drawer organizers for utensils, spices, gadgets, and linens
  • Purchase containers for items like flour, sugar, oils, and teas.
  • Throw down a runner to add some additional style and comfort under the feet
  • Add an artistic feature
  • Include small planters with herbs

The list is done, but there’s still more to come! Follow the blog to stay up to date on how you can get more out of your space. Also, don’t forget to like and comment on the post below. Ta ta for now!!
