A “Bespoke” Conversation

Bespoke art. Bespoke furniture. Bespoke interiors! Bespoke is popping up everywhere, but what does it even mean? And, why should you even care?!

Lol, don’t worry. Even though design is a magical place of fun and adventure for me, sometimes there are parts that make people go, “huh???”. So keep reading, and I’ll help demystify the secrets of the Bespoke World.

When it comes to interiors, there are many options out there to help you get a specific look. In fact, you can find design services of a sort from just about any furniture or hardware store, and online-specific companies offering quick, drop-in solutions. Bespoke comes in when you’re ready to get personal with the design of your home. Starting as a term to specify a beautifully tailored suit, bespoke has a simple meaning: custom.

That’s right. Bespoke refers to custom-made wares and spaces that are specific to you and your needs. That bespoke art? It’s commissioned work specifically for you. The furniture? A custom-built solution with specific finishes you love. Your interior? Every piece is tailored to your sensibilities, including some custom architectural solutions. When you reach out to a designer offering “bespoke furniture/services” you know you’re getting someone who is going to take the time to provide you white glove-level service with a design that is anything but basic. And to help you a little more, I’ll tell you another special secret: most interior designers and design firms provide bespoke services.
