As life at home continues to take on new significance, companies providing at home products continue introduce new products promising to make your life ever more seamless. From speakers to lighting, to appliances, there’s all kinds of tech savvy products out there that are supposed to make at-home pleasant and enjoyable. I mean, there’s even a tech fork to monitor your eating habits. I repeat: A fork. To monitor your eating habits! Come on!! Question is, though, do you need all this stuff? Well, here’s my take on it.

First things first, adding a lot of technology to the home isn’t something you see everyday. Outside of things like bluetooth speakers and home alarm systems, most don’t want to add too much tech to their homes. That’s because most homeowners don’t really need or want it. Yes, having a touch-screen refrigerator with built-in bluetooth speaker sounds really great, unless you don’t spend a whole lot of time in your kitchen or don’t listen to music as often. In addition, tech gets old real fast. So by the time you purchase that refrigerator and live with it for 6 months, there’s a newer, better, faster model. And who’s switching out refrigerators every 6 months? I’ll tell you who: no one.

Even so, if you want to get tech for your office, then by all means do it. The decision comes with evaluating your design needs. You may decide that you want a remote draping system in your living or theater room that opens and closes curtains with the click of a button or tap in the app. You may decide to include a remote lighting system to help dim and turn off the lighting in your nursery. For that, you may just decide you want every new gadget you can get your eyes on, who knows. As Mama Tabitha would say, that’s your business.

Tech is as important to the design as you make it. Get what works for you and your home, and it’ll make things pure love for you in the end.
