The Search for Light: ORC Week 4

Hey there, luv! Welcome back to the blog and our One Room Challenge updates. We’re in Week 4, and the project is really underway now. I’ve got even more room reveals on the way, but first I wanted to take you through the lighting journey. We’ve decided and selected our furniture pieces, our wallcoverings, even the window treatments, but a concrete central lighting piece has evaded us for some time. So let’s talk about it, and see how it all ends up.

Nordic Modern Chandelier | Initial Lighting Choice

Let’s take it back to the original thought from the client’s perspective. In creating a space that was unmistakably adult, they originally attached to this very dramatic lighting feature. Isn’t it just blooming with luscious softness, lol? It was actually one of the first things they selected and confirmed in the process. It really is a lovely piece, that captures full on glam and creates new interest in the often-forgotten surface of the ceiling. However, once the clients picked their final pieces around the rest of the space, they decided that it would just be too big and dramatic for the overall look.

So we went on the hunt. The concept of the design changed a little, going from a space the introduced high drama to one that incorporated the mood of a quiet jungle hideaway. That change in concept had us focus our search efforts on pieces that incorporated black, as with the furniture, or a natural element with material or shape. We looked through many different sources, but had a hard time finding something that really fit. Once we set the date for the project start, we settled on a piece that would work, with the clients thinking they may upgrade later once they found something that could fit better.

LUFTMASSA/SKAFTET Pendant Light | Second Lighting Choice

And then the clients took a trip to Homesense (queue Hallelujah Chorus). They walked in looking for little trinkets and came out calling me about making a trip with them to find a replacement. So that’s what we did. We met up one evening, walked through the options and found something that they really liked in the end. And the winner of that trip was this wicker black and natural finish cylindrical light fixture. Oh yes, it’s going to fit right in once it’s up. It just goes to show you that in design, everything doesn’t happen in order, and that one piece you need could be a little ways down the rode.

Final Lighting Option

That’s all for today, but there’s plenty more coming. It’s all taking shape and we’re super excited! Make sure you leave a like or comment. Also, subscribe if you haven’t already done so. You don’t want to miss what’s coming next. Once you’re done, head over to the One Room Challenge blog here to see what the Featured Designers and other Guest Particpants have dropped this week. Until next time. Byeeeee!
