Good morning, luv! There has been so much happening that I hardly know where to begin. For now, I’ll start with today. Right now, my house is going through a major organizational transition after an intense couple of months. As my husband and I get things straightened out little by little, I wanted to drop in and give you some info on where you can store your decor items. Truth is, where you add decor is just as important as what you add as decor. And since I know you’ve already taken more than a few trips to HomeGoods and Amazon for new pieces, I’m giving you some quick tips on adding decor in your space.

  • Tabletops and Shelves: Arguably the best place to start. I love to use tabletops and shelves to begin filling a space. When staging a home, having areas that allow you to bounce your eye around the space is ideal. That’s why these areas are great starters for things like plants and flowers, bowls, candles, book stacks, picture frames, and other decorative objects like snow globes or small sculptures. For kitchen areas, you might also consider adding cookie and candy jars to countertops, or even displaying small appliances like coffee makers or blenders.

  • Walls: Wall art is by far the most popular option for adding decor to your walls, but there are other things you could do to bring some added flair to those blank canvases. Walls are great places to store shadowboxes and framed memorabilia, like kid’s artwork or signed jerseys. Adding a wall gallery of your favorite family moments is an option, as well as other decorative pieces like wall hangings, drapes and clocks. If you’re feeling really adventurous, try placing a rug on the wall or even adding ceramic plates on a display shelf.

  • Upholstery and Seating: These areas are perfect for soft decor options. I don’t know about you, but I love to curl up on the sofa, in a chair, in my bed, anywhere really. So having added comforts like soft pillows and throws is essential. And they don’t have to be for cuddle purposes either. In addition to having pillows and throws that make you feel cozy and comfortable, you can also have options for seated support or colors and styles that are simply great to look at.

  • Floors: Now, you may be thinking that once you add a rug to the floor, you’ve completed your floor decor requirement. Not so, says I. For me, rugs are essential parts of a space, and so I rarely consider them among my decor items. So what else is there? Well, I’ll tell you. You’ve got plants and planters, you’ve got pedestals, and you’ve got baskets and poufs (not to mention the little Lego’s you step on late at night during your turn down). Also, don’t forget about wastebaskets and extra accent tables here and there.

  • Ceilings: “The ceiling?!” Yes luv, the ceiling. It’s our little forgotten surface (I’ve got a whole post about it here), but it definitely has space to hold some decor. Hanging plants are definitely top of the list with hanging baskets right behind it. I also tend to use the area for canopies, drapes, art installations and crafty items like dreamcatchers and mobiles, especially for nurseries.

Here’s what’s so great about adding decor: you can choose to add it to each area, or you could simple pick the areas that make the most sense for you and your space. I recommend adding to at least two areas to help your space feel as complete as possible. And with that, I’m heading back into the lab to work on some more decor options for myself! Subscribe to the blog if you haven’t already done so, and I’ll chat with you soon. Byeeeee!
