Talk about your father or a father figure in your life.
Back in 2016, I took the biggest leap of my entire life: I decided that I was going to leave my job and pursue my interior design career full time. I was stuck in a dead-end position with management that wouldn’t address my concerns properly and a staff that refused to take me seriously. It was a huge challenge just to show up everyday, but I had a degree, some work under my belt, and a passion that anyone could see.
So I took my leave of my 9-year position and began exploring my options in the design world. I worked for myself while I worked part-time until I found full-time work. What does all this have to do with my daddy? Welp, I found out he made a very similar move back in the day.
He didn’t have a problem staff like me, but he did have management that didn’t value the work he’d put in, so he walked away and pursued his passions in ministry and teaching. Of all the things I know about my father, and of all the ways I’m like my father, this was a recent discovery that I was happy to learn. It made me feel more connected to my roots, and helped me to understand where my passion comes from.
What have you done to pursue your passions?
