How are you creative?
I think of my creative as my unique ability. The unique ability idea comes from a book I finished this year. It’s called The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks, and it refers to how you focus your understanding of your genius (definitely check out the book if that piques your interest). The premise, as I understand it, is that your unique ability is something that feels like second nature to you, something you’ve been doing without even thinking about it since you were a child that creates the foundation of how you operate within your Zone of Genius.
In my thoughts to discovering what that might be for me, I landed on creating order. I remember being a girl going to the hardware store with my dad for something, and I saw all the nails in the bins mixed up. So while I was waiting for him, I started organizing the nails. I did the same thing in the library with books and at home with Beanie Babies (who remembers that). Then it progressed in how I saw things played out in church, and how relationships are formed and maintained at work. I started seeing the people side of that.
That eye of seeing order, whether you’re working with things or people or concepts, is more than creating a guide that says do A, B, C. It captures and understands the base need, the foundation, identifies the longterm outcome, the end goal, and provides a path that considers all the parts that get you there. I’ve been doing this unconsciously for years, and now that I’ve recognized it, I am full force moving forward with it. It goes beyond organization. It goes beyond problem solving. My creative is designing a path that ultimately helps people to live their best lives. AND I LOVE IT!
Before you end your day today, take a moment to ponder your creative and connect to that wonderful side of you. Happy Holidays!
