Do you play in your daily life? What says “playtime” to you?
Woowww. So my husband and I were just having this conversation a couple days ago. We were discussing the idea that we tend to lose our need for play as we get older. I don’t know about you, but I was not told that you could “play” when you were an adult. The only thing I saw was working, working hard, and going out to get drinks to escape all the work you’ve been putting in (I mean that’s really all cocktail is now lol). So when I figured out my own way to play as an adult, I decided to own it.
When it comes to playtime, I look at it like this: anything that I can do that’s like a hobby and brings me joy is considered play. For instance, I have a weekly play date on Sundays where I watch some of my favorite anime, and discover some new ones that may seem interesting. I call it Anime Day at my house, and I spend a few hours watching new episodes and engaging in the comments. I think it’s fun.
I also have an adult coloring book, a couple games on my phone/tablet that I enjoy, and I love playtime where I get to hit up new restaurants or locations and try the food and cocktails. Even reading through a book series is playtime for me. (I just got the Lord of the Rings box set for Christmas and I’m starting with The Hobbit. It’s a first-time read, and I’m excited to see how the original story enhances the movie experience.) I really enjoy all these things, and I hope to create more time and more ways to play. I mean there’s way too much life to live to not have time for play.
Anyway, I hope in this new year you’re able to create more time and opportunity for your way to play. Toodles!
