Why do so many people use the color blue in their homes?
This one’s interesting. In the last 10 years, blue has become the “go-to color” when you want to add color in a space. The quick answer would be that blue is the favorite color of a lot of people, especially men. It relays calm, trust, security, dependability. It’s a classic feel good color that you really can’t go wrong with. I have a another theory, though, about why people tend to choose blue.
Innately, I think it’s another way that we connect to nature. Beautiful sunny days welcome us with a bright sky. Even looking up in the moonlight lets us see stars and dream of the possibilities of the future as we gaze into the depths of a blue night. Oh, and don’t let us sit along a beach and view a blue sky connecting to blue water. Our days are made with that. Granted, you can argue that each of these things makes us feel calm or secure, but the source of that feeling is nature: The world the way it was created to be.
I’ve used that nature connection in my own home. I love color, so for my living room I had to decide how to capture the brightness I wanted, that comes from a white or light beige, without using a neutral. I chose a very light blue tone to mimic the sky. That effect allows light from outside to pour in and bounce around as an extension of the daylight outside. The result is a calming space that all my visitors have agreed adds to the peaceful atmosphere in my home. Not to toot my own horn, but Toot. Toot. lol
Anyway, blue is a great color, and if you’re interested, I’d be happy to chat with you on how you can incorporate it into your own space. Click here to get started, and I’ll chat with you soon!
