What’s your unique ability?
So back in 2020, during the height of the pandemic, I was introduced to a book called The Big Leap through a couple of my go-to podcasts at the time. In one, they talked about it almost regularly while they read through it, and another was able to interview Gay Hendricks, the author, and discuss the fundamentals behind the book and the lifestyle. I ended up purchasing the book after that time, and I finally finished it last year.
There’s so much about the book that is both eye opening and impactful. (It really is a great read, and there’s an audiobook available if that’s more your jam.) One element that I really connect with is the Unique Ability. The premise is that each of us possesses a special characteristic that acts as a sort of key to success in whatever organization or task you choose to do. That thing is described as something that you’ve always done, or a way you’ve always thought, that you may not have realized was there.
I’ve preliminarily identified mine as creating order (they have coaching sessions I’m considering that will be further identify this). It doesn’t matter what I’m doing or when I’ve done it, but through the years I have always been about creating order in things, all the way back to when I was a child. If I’m doing something for work, setting up time with family or friends, or even helping out in ministry or with a nonprofit, whatever it is, what thrills me about it is creating order. That one piece of information leads me to the understanding of how and when to approach different projects that I work on. The result is smoother process with greater results.
