What do I put in my living room?

You know, as common as furniture buying is for a living room space, there’s still a wealth of people who aren’t sure what they need in a living room, so I understand this question. I like to categorize a space based on three main components: Quality, Value and Wellness. This helps in creating my own items list for a project.

For Quality, I focus on the base needs of a space for function and longevity. That would include your sofa, side chair, media cabinet, side table, room lighting and window treatments. Then I move on to the Value, the items needed to help identify a space as your own. How much and when they are used is specific to you and your particular project. Think coffee table, ottoman, area rug, sofa table, bookcase, task and accent lighting, accent tables and chairs, artwork and mirror.

The very last segment focuses in on Wellness. Wellness is centered on the overall wellbeing of your space, or the items within it. The wellness of your items is often based in your value, so that will also give you keys to what to finish your room with. You could include books, plants, blankets, throw pillows, memorabilia, family photos, personal or family art, accent shelving, baskets, candles, diffusers, or any other decor object that you find that you love or enjoy.
