What activities do you lose yourself in?
Reading. Let me just preface this by saying that I’ve been reading regularly since childhood. As a kid, my mom made sure my sisters and I read during school and participated in the library reading challenge every summer, in addition to any summer reading lists we got from the school. It fostered a love of reading, one that has never gone away.
Outside of school, I was a reading monster, but to be honest, I used to have the hardest time with collective reading. Because I was (and still am in many way) a rule follower, I would go along with the class reading one chapter a week, but it was hell. I was soooo bored, and it was so hard not to just read the whole book. I would always lose steam around chapter 3 or 4, and then finish up by finding out who had the Spark Notes lol.
So as I continued to find more books of interest for myself outside of school, I would devour those books like a hangry vulture. I’d blow off all kinds of stuff, including homework and meet ups to finish reading. Even if the book was sucky, I would finish it with vigor wanting to know how it ended. During college I had to put restrictions on myself, and I couldn’t read books while I was actively in school. Since then, I’ve gotten a lot better at managing my reading time (you know, cuz adulting), but if you give me 2 solid hours where I have nothing to do, I will read that entire time. Nonstop.
And there you have it. I love to read and that’s that on that. When do you lose yourself? (Also Eminem is running through my mind heavy right now. Lol ok bye!)
