Write about the power you felt when you told someone no.
If you’ve been paying attention lately, you’ve seen people, mainly women, advocating for the word “no”. In fact, one of the hottest quotes right now is, “‘No,’ is a complete sentence.” Given that we live in a society that focuses heavily on finding the “yes”, saying no really tends to throw people off. So here’s my experience with it.
Now I refer to my no as a Holy No, and that’s really only because I had to start using it with church people. As a Christian, ministry is really important to me, but church people will guilt trip the mess out of you to do all kinds of stuff you are not interested in. One time I used it real heavy when someone was tried to get me to take part in some play. I remember saying no like 5 times, and then she still said she would pray that God would change my mind. Do you know I told that woman I’d pray the opposite of what she was praying, and that was finally what stopped her? LOL.
That’s what makes my no holy. I have full conviction, and I will not be guilt-tripped out of it. I mean seriously, if you can say no to church people, you can say no to anything or anybody lol. It’s completely ok to say no to things that don’t serve you, the situation or the people in your charge. I mean my Holy No is so good that when I got kids giving their best puppy dog eyes for pieces of my snacks, I can sit on that no skrong and feel no absolutely no guilt. No hiding in closets for me! It’s my piece of cake, and you gon leave me alone while I eat it.
Saying “no” is an art that takes lots of practice, but a no can be just as powerful and meaningful as saying yes. How has your experience with “no” been?
