What’s a secret skill or ability you have or wish you had?
A long time ago, I’m not exactly sure when, I was on Facebook. And some kind of way, the subject of praying for people came up. You know, we’ll say, “Oh, I’m going to pray for you,” but never actually do it. And that stood out to me because it’s such a simple thing to do. So I decided to stop being the one who said it and start being the one who did it.
Since then, that’s exactly what I do. Whether they know I do it or not, the prayers go up. I don’t need to know details, I don’t care about what people say about you. Shoot, I might not even like you, but I’m still gonna pray. That type of prayer is called intercession, and while I’ve done this for years now, I never really saw myself as an intercessor. I’m just someone who learned how to pray, and intercedes for others whenever I can. I thought that, until this weekend.
We were in the Worship Room this weekend, an experience my husband worked on with an old friend and a new friend. And in that experience, the idea of me being an intercessor just opened up within me and took me completely by surprise. After it was over, all the things that I’ve done over the years, and the person I’ve always known myself to be, took centerstage in my mind; and I realized, “You know what? I’m an intercessor.”
Knowing that makes my love and connection to people and community much more vibrant, and infinitely stronger. I won’t necessarily need to do anything differently, but get ready. Because, now that I know, the power behind the prayer is going to explode. ✌🏽
