Jot down the first thing that comes to your mind.

Guess what? I made progress on the guest studio this week! It finally looks like I did something in there, which means I can spend some more time working on the other parts of the design and install, like color!

I love color. There’s so much beauty in it, and it allows you to see the intricacies of the world. And I like color in all its forms: pastels, neutrals, neons, warm, cool, you name it. I love it. I honestly don’t think people use it enough, especially in their homes. I know there are a plethora of reasons why that is, but it still makes me a little sad. So obviously that means I’m using color in my own home.

I’ve already figured out the color scheme for my guest studio, which means I just need to pull all the right shades together and layer everything in a simple way. As a refresher, the scheme is basically my skincare brand look. Hubby wanted something fresh but a little moody, centering. I wanted to take advantage of the brightness of the space while keeping things warm and comfortable. That’s how I landed on these colors. A lot goes into the choice: aesthetic, light, mood, client preferences, but ultimately it’s about how everything is balanced in the space.

The next step is in how to apply the color, which will be a fun experiment. I’ll leave that for next time. Before you go, though, let me know what questions or thoughts you have about using color.
