How Paint Changes a Look: The Color Block

Good morning!!!!!!!!! It’s “been so loooonnnngggg”. Not really, but it feels like.

So where have I been? What have I been doing? Basically, I took a MUCH needed break, took some time to re-center myself, and now I’m back to give you all the goodies. Honestly, it’s something that I treasure. I am an introvert, which means that I have to be very conscious of where my energy is going and how it’s being used. When things start to get too complicated, or I’m not protecting my energy the way that I need, I can get stressed out and overwhelmed. So before that happens, every so often I’ll take a break, vacation, chill time, to get myself back on track. And that’s what I did. It felt good!! And now I’m ready to get back to all the things in full force.

So today, I want to drop some deets on painting, and how a change in a painted look will completely change how you view your space. What do I mean? Well, take a look at this E-Design.

When I see this space, I definitely see a light, contemporary room with some richness. The brightness of the upper half of the wall helps contribute to this space still maintaining a more open and relaxed feel. Now, look at the space below. Same colors, same exact furniture.

The perspective has changed. Yes, it’s still a contemporary space, but now it’s creating a sexier, more exclusive look. It also changes the richness of the space, since the major wall color here is the black.

Why is that? Well, it’s because colors help to tell a story, and paint will help create that story based on how you choose to incorporate it. Not only that, there are more options available to you. Instead of painting all your walls one color, with the exception of the one bold (or not so bold) accent color, you can create dimension, shape and pattern on the wall. In the examples above you have a simple color blocking pattern with a gold strip to differentiate the spaces. The dominant color as at the top, and the secondary color is at the bottom. But what if we flipped it?

You see? It changes again. Just this one pattern, even in keeping the same colors and the same decor pieces, creates a different feel. Sure there are similar elements, but each look will move you to experience the space in a different way. This one gives me secured vibes, but also seems welcoming; like a nice place to entertain a group of people as opposed to 1 or 2 people at a time.

So what does that mean for you? Before you commit to just painting all the walls one color, consider how you can add more depth, or drama, or visual interest to your homes or spaces just by using a paint. Grab a piece of poster board, create a look you might want to scale, and tape it to the wall to see how you feel about it. Once you decide and put the look up on the wall, you’ll have created something that’ll stand out from what everyone else has done. Which is what we want, isn’t it? We don’t try to keep up with the Jones’es, we are the Jones’es!

So go ahead and tell me in the comments which look better fits you and why. Also, don’t forget to like and subscribe down below if you haven’t already. Until next time, luvs!
