Den den den den dun dun, Design Non-Combat!! Yaasss! Not only has Mortal Kombat finally made a comeback, I’m here with some comeback news. This year I am taking part in the One Room Challenge as a Guest Participant!! If you are fully aware of what this is, you already know! If this is new to you, then stay with me because I’m going to tell you all about it. For the next 8 weeks, starting today, I’m going to be sharing my project with you, from Concept to Completion. BOOM! ok, let’s get started.

First and foremost, The One Room Challenge is a biannual event, hosted with Media Partner Better Homes & Gardens, that features twenty designers and influencers as they transform a room from beginning to end. As each of the Featured Designers drop their updates each Wednesday, additional online participants have the opportunity to share in the fun and recreate a room of their choosing. The Guest Participants sign on to be a part of the event and share blog and Instagram posts each Thursday with their project’s progress. The entire point is to foster support and camaraderie amongst designers, as well as give design lovers and potential clients a glimpse into the full scope of a design project. So let’s jump right in with my project space, the Master Bedroom.
This is my first time participating, and I’ll be transforming a couple’s bedroom in an older, 1960s townhome. Right now the space contains basic furniture and storage solutions with minimal decor. My clients really want to infuse some character and add new life to the room. Their desire is to create a dark and sensual space for them to enjoy in the evenings after a long day’s work. The Design Scope for the project is very simple: keeping with their existing king-sized bed, we’ll be removing the carpet, refinishing the hardwood, adding fresh paint and wallpaper, including new furniture and lighting pieces, and including small storage and decor solutions. In addition to that we’re working with a smaller materials budget of about $1200. All in, there’s plenty to do and you get to watch us work through the whole process. Check out the Floor Plan and Concept Board below.

What do you think? Different right? You know that I adore pattern and color and find no reason to shy away from either. But don’t let me steer the conversation away. Drop your thoughts down in the comments, and tell me what you think. Then, head over to the ORC Blog (click here) and see what some of the other Designers are working on. There’s bound to be plenty of inspiration out there waiting for you. Until next week, luv!
