And We’re Off!: ORC Week 2

Good morning, love. Listen, we’re still talking about the Kentucky Derby in our house, so you’re going to get these horse race references, lol. It’s Week 2 of the One Room Challenge, and our Sensual Bedroom project is underway. This week I’m sharing the First Look of the space, giving you some details about the overall Concept, and sharing with you the first step in our renovation. Yay! I’m so excited. But before we start, don’t forget to check the ORC’s Featured Designers and other Guest Participants right here. Now, let’s get to it.

First things first, check out this space. What you’re seeing is a typical Master Bedroom in a townhome (which I will forever in my mind call a row home) that’s more than 20 years old. Now I share that because millions of Americans are living in homes just like this one, with spaces with similar sizes and layouts, thinking that their design options and stylings are limited or out of reach. Well, guess what? They absolutely are not, and I’m going to show you that the sky’s the limit, even if you don’t have brand new construction with big kitchen islands and high ceilings, ok! You have reasonable wall space, great window access, and the size is actually perfect for this couple’s intended purpose: relaxing and sleeping.

Now that we’ve talked space, let’s get a little more into Concept. Every design project starts with a Concept. You may have heard others refer to it as finding a theme for the space. You basically want to create one over-arching idea that helps lead your project in the right direction (we don’t just show up and go “Ta da! Here’s your new space”. There’s a process lol). The clients really wanted to make this bedroom into something that was tailored for them. They have work and kids, and with the pandemic, having a space they could appreciate as a couple was super important. They also expressed wanting to incorporate some types of natural elements like woods and greenery, and even making the room dark on purpose. I mean, they did not want your average white, beige, tan, grey. They wanted color, deep, moody color. So that’s what we’re giving them.

Which leads me to… drum roll… our project start! Listen, we’re working with a specific amount of time and a tight budget, but that doesn’t mean that we aren’t out here ready to create and inspire greatness. The first step in the transformation is getting the wall base down, which led us to Clare for their amazing color options. To create the basis for our sensual look, I knew I need to get down and moody, and I definitely did that. We went with Current Mood, a deep, rich green with some blue hues that look absolutely amazing with the changing of light. Now I’m not typically involved in the building and construction process, but the clients are also close friends, so I put in some extra work for my lovelies. The color and coverage is absolutely amazing. As a matter of fact, if you want to get more details on Clare and why I love it so much, check it out here.

Listen, there’s so much more for you to see, but you’ll have to keep watching as everything unfolds. Check back next week to see how we tackled the next step: the flooring. Don’t forget to like, subscribe and leave me a comment, and keep perusing all the ORC fun right here! Until next time!
