Good morning!! It’s a new week, and that means a new update on our Bedroom project for the One Room Challenge. To be honest, this will probably be the messiest, most time consuming, and age reminding part of the whole process. LUV! I had aches in places that haven’t been that worked in YEARS! My body was so through with me after this, she checked out on me for the next 2 days. LOL no word a lie. So I hope you love ALL of this content over here today. Also, don’t forget, you can check out other ORC spaces here. Now let’s get to it.

If you remember from our First Look photo, the bedroom had a basic beige carpet on the floor. Lifeless, nothing special, just straight boring. The clients absolutely agreed and really wanted to showcase a hardwood floor. Luckily, they had a beautiful floor hardwood already under their carpet that we were able to refinish. Fast Fact: I’m always on board with getting rid of carpet in homes because it holds too much dust, dirt and allergens. Trust me, your lungs will love you that much more for chucking that carpet in the dumpster. So that’s what we did for our client. We also wanted to keep the tone of the floor light and natural, so we focused on a light glaze to finish it off.

So here’s how we (my husband and I) tackled the job. We started with pulling up the carpet, including the backing, rolling it up and taking it out the room. Then we pulled up all the tack strips, nails and staples from out of the floor. After all that was up, it was time to start sanding. This was probably the longest part of the process since we used a belt sander and a hand sander. The hand sander really came in handy when trying to remove areas where previous contractors painted the walls without covering the floor. (Side note here: even if you have no plans of exposing your original hardwood, don’t let a contractor paint without covering your floors. Please? Just… don’t, ok?) After all that was done, we cleaned up all the excess sawdust and stained the floor with a light glaze.

At the end of it, the floor is absolutely beautiful. The finish is natural with a super light tint. It works really well in the space because it balances the beautiful dark walls and adds a natural finish element to pair pairs well with the overall design. It feels soft and comforting under foot, too. It’s just so nice! Ooo I can’t wait until the wallpaper is in so we can see all the surface finishes together. It’s gonna be so good; I can’t wait. Unfortunately, you are gonna have to wait; for the next reveal in the project.
It’s ok though! There’s plenty to do until then. First, make sure you like and subscribe if you haven’t already done so. Leave a comment, too, telling me how you like the new floor. After that, be sure to head over to the One Room Challenge blog here and see what other designers, professionals, and homeowners are doing in their third week. Talk soon!
