Same old, same old.

What bores you?

You know what really bores me? Tradition for the sake of tradition. And I mean we just out here saying stuff, and doing stuff, just cause somebody else did it. It started with good intentions, but we not even trying to expand on the original thought. We just regurgitating information, that for some reason became a precedent, and half of it isn’t even relevant anymore.

The first time I remember tradition boring me was in elementary school. Every year, in January and for Black History Month, they taught us about Martin Luther the King, Jr. And I know it was because of his birthday and Civil Rights, and I Have a Dream, and all that. But it was the same information. Every year. On script. Almost exact same delivery. I got so bored, I didn’t wanna hear about him anymore. I had enough dreams lol. Rosa Parks, too. There’s only so many times you can hear about the woman who refused to move to the back of the bus. I get it! So when I could I explored other people, like Zora Neal Hurston and Langston Hughes, and Mahalia Jackson.

Fast forward to 2023, and I’m having the same boredom feelings about quite a few things. Church for one. Black church been preaching the same messages the same way for years. Everybody still shouting, “They got up!” at the dry bones. No one’s had a different perspective yet? Nobody? Lol. And don’t get me started about these “men” out here still trynna tell women they need to be doing all the cooking and cleaning and child rearing. Both of y’all working, but your bum behind don’t got no responsibilities? Ok. Everybody digital marketer is teaching the same marketing funnels to everyone else, and every influencer starts off their day making the bed and drinking a cup of coffee before the kids wake up. Go sit down! You know good and well you don’t make the bed in the morning. LOL.

It’s boring y’all! At this point, I am T-Pain. Do something else!

I think it would be so much better if schools could help teachers learn how to, yes re-teach what students may have forgotten, but don’t drill that into their heads! I mean, there is so much more to history than what we were all taught. Goodness but did you strike a chord with me when I read about church. Religion should be taught with exuberance and not just religion─ get inspired to find out more and share that with others! Men and women are force-fed roles so often that it really is so sad how people think they should behave. You really nailed it, so many people just go with what they know instead of go beyond their comfort zones. I work in a blue collar industry and here this crud every day. Anyway, have a great Sunday!

Lol I hear you. I ended up having to sit through a “Same old, same old” service yesterday and couldn’t help but giggle to myself. Tradition and “process”, as some would call it, is hardwired in some people. We just have to do our best to love through it.
