Daily writing prompt
What could you do more of?

For the longest time, especially in my 20s, I had one seemingly insignificant but constant rule: I don’t read books during periods when I’m in school or really busy. Why? Because I get obsessive.

Real talk. I had a habit of getting into a book and literally doing nothing else. I would read until I was finished, and I mean the only thing that would stop me was the fact that I had class or I had to go to work. So when I was busy, it’s like I was only a shell of myself. I mean there were people I still saw and places I still went, but hindsight has told me that I wasn’t connecting with anything special. I wasn’t taking in fresh thoughts, ideas and perspectives. I was just kind of stagnant.

Beginning around March of ’23, I ended up slowing down on work for a bit. That ran into a pregnancy that eventually halted everything. So what did I end up doing? Reading. A lot. And it felt so good. I tapped into so many genres. I expanded my thinking in so many different arenas. My creativity went through the roof. Now I’m connecting with parts of myself I had long forgotten or simply did not know existed. All because I’m reading again, and it’s so fun!

I feel I’m on the brink of something amazing, like I’m poised to step forward with a whole new energy. It gives me chills just thinking about it. I just love stories so much. And the people who make them. Good, captivating stories that just stay with you long after the last page is read. That’s what I’m going to do more of. That’s the part of myself I will continue tapping into. Now let’s find out what comes out of it. Has there been a story that’s given you chills?
